Roller Derby Interest?

I know it's been a while since the last post in this comm, but I didn't know of its existence until just today when a friend clued me in. While I'm a guy, I've really been taken in by the concept of the roller derby universe and think it's rather lame that Madison can have two entire teams, while down here in Shampoo-Banana we can't even organize a single one, and preferably, I'd like to be part of a co-ed league, but could settle for helping organize/manage in some fashion or another.

Now, I'd like to get this ball rolling again. What's the hand count for people watching this comm or just visiting who'd be interested in a) being part of a team and/or b) helping start a team from the ground up and keeping it organized? I'm harassing my friends about this, too.

Of course, I'm not the most knowledgeable about the sport still, but definitely willing to learn whatever I can to help with getting this rolling (two drums and a cymbal...), including how we'd organize and get working with other teams and leagues.

Let me know!

-Brian

Well, as I said in the previous post (a year ago) I'll be in C-U over Thanksgiving. I'd be happy to get together with you and anyone else interested and talk about what I know. And I'll probably be going skating at Savoy again, probably on Saturday.

PS: if there is a second league in Madison, this is the first I've heard about it. I only know about the Mad Rollin' Dolls...

Whoops. I think when I saw Appleton, I got it confused in my head with Madison.

REGARDLESS, if Appleton, Carbondale, Madison, Bloomington, and other similarly-sized and character cities to the Champaign-Urbana area are able to host a team, I don't see why we can't :D Especially with Indy, Chicago, and St. Louis so close by, it should help in getting teams to play against even in an irregular season, let alone if we are able to get some Illinois or Big Ten rivalry going with Indiana or Wisconsin.

I'd love the chance to really get this going, and to learn from your experiences on how we can start this up and keep it active.

Re: Haha.
Awesome. As polyfrog said, he'll be in town around Thanksgiving, so if we can get some kind of get together arranged with everyone who's interested, I think it'd be great! :)

And don't worry about not knowing much. Most of my knowledge has come through watching random Windy City Rollers videos and reading online, so you're not alone.

Definitely interested. I've never played, but I used to watch the Steel City Derby Demons in Pittsburgh every once in a while.

I've never played either, but it's been an interest of mine, however slight, for a few years now since I heard about it.
